GOSHEN – A corrections officer at the Orange County Jail has been placed on administrative leave and charged with promoting prison contraband.
Gioron Wilkins was arrested on Thursday, August 17 following an investigation by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Division Crisis Intervention Unit and Office of Professional Standards and Compliance.
It is alleged that Officer Wilkins smuggled tobacco products into the jail with the intent to provide the contraband to inmates, authorities said. It is also alleged that he possessed an unauthorized cell phone while inside the secure area of a correctional facility.
As a result, Wilkins was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Goshen Town Court.
“My administration is transparent; nevertheless, we will not allow conduct of this nature to diminish the professionalism of this agency and our staff,” said Sheriff Paul Arteta. “We will continue to uphold the highest standards.”
