KINGSTON – The Ulster County District Attorney’s Office announced the unsealing of an indictment charging a Lake Katrine couple with manslaughter and other charges in connection with the August 2, 2022 death of the woman’s biological 14-year-old daughter.
Colin Schlegel, 34, and Kristin Delsanto, 29, are also charged with criminally negligent homicide, assault, criminal sale of a controlled substance, two counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance to a child, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child in connection with the death of the child.
Detectives from the Town of Ulster Police Department conducted a year-long investigation that revealed that both Schlegel and Delsanto were aware of and contributed to the girl’s consumption of drugs, alcohol, and fentanyl, which subsequently caused her death.
The DA’s office said Det. Sgt. Cheryl Benjamin never gave up on the investigation with the assistance of the State Police and Ulster County Sheriff’s Office.
“Giving a toxic cocktail of controlled and prohibited substances to any child is criminal; when it results in the death of that child, anyone who gave or contributed to such substances and result must be held to account,” said Chief Assistant DA Emmanual Nneji.
