YONKERS – A 20-year-old Yonkers man has been charged with murder in connection with the killing of Daquon Powell, 19, on Morris Street in Yonkers.
Police allege that as Powell, who was driving a car, pulled up to 55 Morris, an 18-year-old passenger got out of the vehicle.
That’s when a gunman, later identified as Matthew Quinones, 20, of Danbury, walked up to the driver’s side and fired several rounds, hitting Powell six times, killing him. The passenger was struck once.
Two teens, ages 16 and 17, were with Quinones at the time of the killing.
Investigators believe the three were lying in wait in the driveway of the house as Powell arrived and believe the shooting is related to gang violence and that he was targeted for assassination.
The two teens were charged with attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon and conspiracy for being present with Quinones at the time of the murder.
