DA kicks in $100K toward police academy upgrades

MIDDLETOWN – Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler is providing $100,000 to the Orange County Police Chiefs’ Association for building improvements and technology at the organization’s police academy.

The facility is on the grounds of the City of Middletown’s recreation complex.

Hoovler said the improvements will enhance the ability to train new officers throughout the various police agencies in the county.

“This is the first installment of funding that I put aside to help them reach their goal of getting this new annex in order to train the officers better here in Orange County and is part of my ongoing mission to support law enforcement,” he said.

Crawford Town Police Chief Dominick Blasko, president of the association, said Hoovler has been “A proactive and collaborative partner in our efforts in meeting the criminal justice and discovery reforms. Hisa support and efforts will enable us to continue and enhance our efforts to effectively train current and new police officers.”

Hoovler said it is imperative, now more than ever, “that law enforcement is regularly reinforced by well-trained and prepared new officers.”

He said police officers “remain on the front line between crime and our communities.”
