Democrats sweep mayoral races in Kingston, Poughkeepsie and Newburgh

Poughkeepsie Alderwoman Yvonne Flowers is the mayor-elect in the City of Poughkeepsie capturing 75 percent of the votes. The Democratic candidate defeated Republican Anthony LaRocca.

Flowers will be the first African American and female mayor in Poughkeepsie.

โ€œPeople are ready for a change; they are ready for this city to be united. Just feeling the energy here, I am excited about what we are going to do moving forward,โ€ she said.

Newburgh City Mayor Torrance Harvey, a Democrat, has outdistanced his two opponents to win another four-year term.

He was challenged by Republican former city councilman John Guidice and independent Hael Stewart-Fisher.

Harvey outpolled his closest challenger, Stewart-Fisher, by a two-to-one margin. โ€œContinue and leadership matters. We are going to continue to build the City of Newburgh together,โ€ Harvey said.

In Kingston, Democratic Mayor Steven Noble also won re-election defeating Republican Scott Denny by a two-to-one margin.

โ€œThey voted today, and they sent a message that what weโ€™re doing in the City of Kingston is the right thing,โ€ said Noble. โ€œWe are moving the city forward with really amazing zoning. Weโ€™re working on our housing issues; weโ€™re rebuilding our infrastructure. We are treating everyone with respect and dignity here in the City of Kingston.โ€ย 

The race for mayor in the City of Port Jervis saw Republican Dominic Cicalese defeat Democrat Elizabeth Miller by 55 votes. There are 98 absentee ballots and they may decide that race.
