FEMA denies Individual Assistance appeal for Orange County flood victims

GOSHEN – For a second time, FEMA has denied Orange County’s Individual Assistance sought for dozens of county residents impacted by last July’s devastating flooding. Most of the severe damage occurred in Highland Falls, West Point, Cornwall, and Central Valley.

County Executive Steven Neuhaus is disappointed by the rejection but noted there was aid provided closer to home.

“The majority they got along the way was secured partially through the governor and a big chunk of it through the county and our DSS office,” he said. “We also had a major shot in the arm from non-profits like the American Red Cross and from Teams like Team Rubicon.”

Neuhaus is now calling on the US Small Business Administration to provide low-interest SBA federal disaster loans to all victims of this disaster. “SBA’s disaster loan program may be the last chance to aid the presidents and small businesses that are still trying to rebuild their homes and businesses.”
