LEEDS – Praising the round-the-clock efforts of volunteer firefights, Governor Kathy Hochul announced a $25 million fund to provide the newest and most modern firefighting equipment to help them do their job.
She made the announcement while at the Leeds firehouse in Greene County on Friday, telling volunteers and local officials she has allocated $1 million for that department alone to upgrade its infrastructure.
- “Of the $25 million, there are a number of companies represented here that are beneficiaries of this, but we are here at Leeds Hose Co. #1 because you will be receiving $1 million to renovate this station,” she said to loud applause.

The governor said the grant will fund a new addition to make sure the building is ADA compliant, and the department will replace its existing radio and siren tower.
Hochul said in total, departments in 35 counties will receive programs and the program will continue in future years.
