Habitat for Humanity of Dutchess dedicates its newest home built by first responders

POUGHKEEPSIE- On September 29, 2023, Habitat for Humanity of Dutchess County hosted their home dedication ceremony for the house that first responders built in Poughkeepsie for our newest Habitat Homeowner, Sarane & Connell and their family.ย ย The family was warmly welcomed, not only to their new home, but to their new neighborhood on Harrison Street by neighbors, local officials, Habitat board members, and friends.

Habitat Dutchessโ€™ newest home was led by Honorary Build Chair Steve Diamond and was generously supported by our sponsors at Central Hudson a division of Fortus, M&T Bank, Mid Hudson Federal Credit Union and Nuvance Health.

Over the last six weeks Habitat volunteers were joined by volunteers from the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department, City of Poughkeepsie Police Department, and Dutchess County Sheriffโ€™s Office to make this house a home.ย  First responders protect our community every day, both on and off the clock and they know better than most how important affordable housing is to ensure a thriving, safe, and inclusive community for all.ย  The dedicated efforts of our many volunteers and donors made this safe and financially sustainable home a reality for Sarane & Connell, and their family.

During the dedication the future homebuyers said, โ€œI want to thank Habitat for Humanity, its staff, its many donors, for building our forever home.ย  Because of their tireless efforts we did not have to leave Dutchess County and can continue to raise our children in the community.โ€

Maureen Brennen Lashlee, CEO stated โ€œA home provides a stable place for families to grow strong and make memories.ย  We give thanks to all those who made it possible for Sarane & Connell, and their children.ย  Together we made first time homeownership a reality for another family.โ€
