Latimer delivers Westchester State of the County Address

WHITE PLAINS- Westchester County Executive George Latimer delivered his 7th State of the County Address on Thursday and focused much of his speech on the need to create new housing, the economic boost that has come with the expansion of tourism, and the importance and strength of the countyโ€™s diversity.

According to Latimer, since 2018, nearly 6,000 units of affordable housing have been built, gone under construction, or are in the pipeline for the future.ย  โ€œSince our administration first took office in 2018, affordable housing โ€“ and the availability of affordable housing throughout the County โ€“ has remained a top priority,โ€ he said.

The countyโ€™s tourism activity was also a main focus of the address.ย  Latimer reported that visitor spending reached $2 billion in 2022 and was a major driver of economic activity in the county.ย  He said that his administration approved more than $2 million of ARPA funds to promote the county as a tourist destination.

A theme that carried throughout his address was the diversity of the residents of Westchester County.ย  โ€œWe proudly embody the essence of new faces, individuals who bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to the forefront,โ€ said Latimer.ย  โ€œYet, intertwined with this newness is the richness of experience and a tapestry of accomplishments that defines the very fabric of our community.โ€
