Letter to the Editor: Former GOP leader says Flowers is only choice for Poughkeepsie

Dear Editor,

I am writing to express my support for Yvonne Flowers for Poughkeepsie Mayor. Having had the privilege of getting to know Yvonne while I was Chair of the City of Poughkeepsie Republican Committee, I am convinced that her knowledge of the city, her dedication, and her passion make her the best candidate for the job.

While Yvonne was working to secure ballot access for her and other candidates who had been nominated by the City of Poughkeepsie Republican Party and the Dutchess County Independence Party, I soon learned that Yvonne’s work ethic and passion for Poughkeepsie were, and are unmatched. Yvonne then, and now, embodies a true public servant, doing what is right for the City of Poughkeepsie, and not what is politically expedient. While Yvonne served on the City Council, she developed a reputation for being an independent-minded public servant who always puts her community first.

Yvonne has served in various roles on the City Council including serving as chair of the finance committee, where she worked closely with former Mayor, and current State Senator, Rob Rolison to reduce the deficit of $13 million left by the previous administration by more than $11 million, with an estimation of eradicating the remaining deficit by the end of 2024.

I wholeheartedly believe that Yvonne’s vision, integrity, and dedication make her the ideal candidate to lead the City of Poughkeepsie into this new chapter. Her passion for the community, coupled with her ability to bring people together, and effect meaningful change makes her the ideal candidate. Most importantly, Yvonne’s experience is exactly what’s needed to continue moving the city in the right direction.

On November 7th, I urge my fellow Republicans to vote for the right person for the job, and that person is Yvonne Flowers.
