Liquor bottle repurposed as weapon; police investigating

POUGHKEEPSIE – City police are investigating a stabbing that occurred in the vicinity of Fairview and Parker Avenues, near where the Dutchess County Rail Trail crosses over Fairview Avenue.  The incident was reported to the police at approximately 12:14 p.m. on Sunday.

The original report indicated that a victim of a stab wound was located in the laundromat on Parker Avenue, in the plaza at the intersection with Fairview Avenue.  After the area was deemed secure, EMS personnel arrived and triaged the patient, and transported the wounded to MidHudson Regional Hospital for further care.  The extent of the injuries was not considered life-threatening, according to sources at the scene.  An officer who accompanied the victim to the hospital described him as being “uncooperative”.

According to the victim, an argument between himself and the female assailant began over a liquor bottle.  The man left the laundromat and walked on Fairview Avenue, with the subject following him.  According to the hospitalized victim, they were near an auto body shop on Fairview Avenue when he went back to the laundromat.  The suspect allegedly picked up a pice of the broken liquor bottle, followed him back to the laundromat, and assaulted him with the improvised weapon. She fled the scene before officers arrived.

Emergency personnel indicated that the female suspect may have also been injured in the altercation.  The police are inquiring at local hospitals to determine if the subject has sought treatment for her possible injuries.
