MID-HUDSON- Election day is today (Tuesday) and while there is no election for federal or state offices, there are a number of local offices up for grabs in the Hudson Valley and Catskills regions.
This could be one of the last odd-year elections in the state as Governor Hochul considers signing a bill that would move most odd-year elections onto the even-year election cycle.
There are also two statewide ballot measures for consideration.ย One proposal asks voters to remove the constitutional debt limit placed on small city school districts.ย The second proposal, if approved, would extend an exclusion from the debt limit for municipal sewer projects.
Elections officials reported that early voting turnout was low and it is unclear if election day turnout will follow the same trend.
Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and voters can check their registration status at the New York State Board of Elections website.
