Major player in local economy says passenger service at Stewart is ‘abysmal’

NEWBURGH – The executive director of the Construction Contractors Association of the Hudson Valley is not pleased with the level of passenger service at New York Stewart International Airport.

At present, the Newburgh area facility has flights to Florida and seasonal travel to Myrtle Beach aboard Allegiant Air, and flights to Iceland with connections to mainland Europe aboard Play Airlines.

Alan Seidman acknowledges that the Port Authority, which operates Stewart, is marketing the facility, but “abysmal” is how he describes service from the airport.

“I don’t like throwing stones, but I think with a great airport like that and the infrastructure in place, I have a very hard time believing that there can’t be some major airline that they could attract there,” he said.

Seidman, who was an early influence in attracting service that began in April 1990, said there has to be some formula to bring some of the majors back to

Stewart.
