PORT JERVIS – Minisink Valley spoiled Port Jervis’s return to historic Glennette Field on Friday night, defeating the previously undefeated Raiders 28-14 in a non-league football showdown.
Minisink Valley quarterback Robert LaBarbara rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns and threw for a touchdown pass to Charlie Olsen. Running back Zach Filip rushed 108 yards and a touchdown for Minisink Valley (7-1).
“We played tough football today,” Minisink Valley coach Kevin Gallagher said. “On both sides of the ball, we played very physical and made plays when we needed to.”
Port Jervis played its first two home games at Chase Field on the high school’s campus while Glennette’s redesign and renovation were being completed. Glennette, which hosted its first game in 1918, underwent a makeover as part of a capital project for the district’s middle school. It included the installation of FieldTurf to replace the grass surface along with a fence around the field.
Although Friday’s matchup was a non-league game it still meant something. Port Jervis and Minisink Valley are neighboring rivals and both teams entered the game state-ranked. Port Jervis is the fourth-ranked team in Class B. Minisink is No. 10 in Class A.
