MONTICELLO- The long-awaited grand opening of the legendary Monster Golf Course at Resorts World Catskills came on Monday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the first golfers taking to the legendary course. Redesigned by famed golf course architect Rees Jones at a cost of more than $40 million, the course is expected to draw golfers from around the world.
“Renowned people came from all over the world to play this golf course,” said Jones. “I believe because of the land we have and the care we took and how long it took to build this. We have another renowned golf course in the making and I think there are going to be people coming from all over the world to really get reintroduced to the Monster Golf Course.”
Bob DeSalvio, President of Genting New York, spoke about what the grand opening means to the community. DeSalvio believes the golf course will have a positive impact on local businesses and is a key addition to the offerings at the Resorts World Catskills property.
“We are so excited about the impact that this will have on this community,” said DeSalvio. “Forever, people will be talking about The Monster.”
The course is named The Monster for a reason: the 18th hole particularly challenging and overall, the course is long compared to most standard golf courses.
“I think you’re going to find yourself really, every one of you, enjoying the new Monster,” said Jones. “If you playing well, just when you play the 18th hole, you’re going to know you’re on The Monster. So you’ll find out.”
