WHITE PLAINS – A Mount Vernon man has been sentenced to 10 years in state prison for the fatal shooting of a 32-year-old Sleepy Hollow father of two.
Emmanuel Valentin Perez, 21, who was sentenced on Thursday, for killing Manuel Salazar on June 28, 2021, pled guilty to manslaughter and assault.
He will also face five years of post-release supervision.
At about 9:30 p.m. on the night of the murder, Perez, who was 18 at the time, used a pistol to shoot Salazar in the abdomen during a confrontation at Margotta Courts Park in Sleepy Hollow. He died at Westchester Medical Center.
Perez’s gunshot also wounded a second man, who was taken to the hospital and released.
“This senseless act of gun violence took away a father and husband leaving a family devastated,” said Westchester District Attorney Miriam Rocah. “We must be vigilant in our fight to keep guns out of the hands of people who use them for harm.”
