NEWBURGH – Middletown’s Fireman Joe statue is at New York Art Foundry in Newburgh where it is being recast in bronze.
The 100-year-old statue was removed from its pedestal in Middletown last summer and moved to the Newburgh foundry where it is being cast in bronze, said foundry owner Paige Tooker.
“We are in the middle of making a wax replica of the statue and we’re going to invest that in ceramic shell and pour the entire piece in bronze,” she said.
Tooker said the statue should be ready for reinstallation on a granite base in the spring.
Her $70,000 work will last virtually forever, she said.
