NEW WINDSOR – New Windsor police Chief Daniel Valeri, Monday, said the officer struck by a passing motorist as she directed traffic Sunday evening at an earlier accident, is in stable condition at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital.
Officer Maria Schettini was directly traffic around the crash side on Little Britain Road in the area of Executive Drive. As she directed traffic, she was struck by a passing vehicle that fled the scene by was subsequently stopped by officers over a mile away.
The driver of that vehicle was identified Claudia Rudin, 74, of New Windsor.
Officer Schettini was transported by New Winsor Emergency Medical Service ambulance to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh where she was admitted for treatment.
The incident remains under investigation by New Windsor Police and are asking anyone who may have witnessed it to contact Detective Moore at 845-565-7000.
State Police assisted at the scene of the incident.
