NEWBURGH – A week after a landlords’ association challenged the City of Newburgh’s rent stabilization law, the city council Monday night approved nine people to serve on a rent guidelines board. All members must be city residents.
The council’s vote was unanimous.
The city’s recommendations will now be forwarded to the state Division of Housing and Community Renewal for its approval, which is expected to be a formality.
Two tenant representatives have been named: Bridget McMillan and Dino Nguyen.
Two property owner representatives have been named: Dr. Debra Lamb and former city councilwoman Karen Mejia.
Five members of the public were also approved for approval by the state agency: Johnm Kasinki, Valarie Larry, Martin Ellis, L. Simone Washington, and Elisabeth Balachova.
The nine people selected were among those who submitted applications and were reviewed by city officials.
