GOSHEN – Orange County lost 40 men from Companies E and L of the 107th Regiment of the 27th Division during the Battle of the Hindenburg Line in Northern France back on September 29, 1918.
That day is remembered every year as County Veterans Services Director Christian Farrell holds a ceremony at the county veterans’ cemetery in Goshen.
“We have what we have because of those who gave what they gave, and those men gave everything they had, and we benefit from that to this day,” he said. “Freedom isn’t free, and they are a true testament to that.”
The Friday event included the unveiling of a new memorial monument that includes the names of those residents who died on that day.
