GOSHEN – Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus and County Legislature Chairwoman Katie Bonelli said Wednesday that the proposed 2024 county tax rate, initially to be $2.34, will be reduced further to $2.30.
Neuhaus released his proposed $923 million county budget for 2024 on September 26. The legislature has since been reviewing it.
The proposed tax rate is lower than it was both last year ($2.745) and in 2014, when Neuhaus took office. It remains the lowest county tax rate in Orange County since the 1960s.
“Lowering taxes remains one of my top priorities and I will continue to work with the legislature to develop fiscally responsible budgets,” Neuhaus said.
The proposed adjustment will be facilitated through the legislature’s Ways and Means Committee and will be voted on by the full legislature in December.
The county tax rate is separate from the tax rates imposed by school districts, towns, villages and cities.
