Passover begins at sundown (VIDEO)

ELLENVILLE – The Jewish holiday of Passover begins at sundown tonight (Wednesday) with the traditional seder dinner to commemorate the Jewish peoples’ flight from ancient Egypt.

Rabbi Yakov Raskin of Ellenville notes it was God who led the chosen people out of bondage.

“They were enslaved for many, many years and then came God himself, not an angel, not a messenger, and took them out of ancient Egypt and he brought them out into the desert and then he fed them the special food that fell from heaven, and he took care of them, and everything was taken care for them in a beautiful way,” he said.

One of the staples of Passover food is the matzoh, unleavened bread to symbolize the fact that when the Jews left Egypt, they didn’t have time to allow bread to rise, so it was baked thin and flat.
