GOSHEN – A 43-year-old Port Jervis man was sentenced by Orange County Court Judge Craig Stephen Brown on Tuesday to 30 years in state prison followed by 15 years of post-release supervision.
Shawn Beach, who had a prior violent felony conviction in 2003, was convicted in August of two counts of attempted murder and assault.
As alleged at trial, on December 11, 2022, Beach swung a hammer in the direction of a women in a Port Jervis residence. The woman’s 18-year-old son rushed to her aid when he heard her screams.
Beacon turned the hammer on the son and struck him over the lead, fracturing his skull. The son was treated at Westchester Medical Center for life-threatening injuries but survived.
Port Jervis City Police had investigated the incident and arrested Beacon.
“This violent recidivist was appropriately punished for his horrible actions,” said District Attorney David Hoovler.
He urged all victims of domestic violence to seek support available by contacting law enforcement, his office or organizations like Fearless! Hudson Valley.
