Port Jervis man sentenced to PA prison for attempted sex with minor

MILFORD, PA – A 41-year-old Port Jervis man has been sentenced to nine to 20 years in Pennsylvania state prison after pleading guilty to attempting to engage in sexual conduct with a girl under the age of 18.

According to the affidavit of probable cause supporting the charge, an undercover detective from the district attorney’s office assumed the identity of a 14-year-old girl on social media.

From February 29 to March 20, Robert Acoveno continued to communicate with the undercover detective and planned to meet with the 14-year-old girl to engage in sex.

Once Acoveno was taken into custody, detectives obtained a search warrant for his cell phone where they discovered numerous photos and videos depicting child sexual abuse material.

The case was prosecuted by Pike County District Attorney Ray Tonkin. “This case is a proactive approach by my office to arrest child predators to keep our community safe from these types of predators,” he said.
