Poughkeepsie FD secures federal equipment grant

POUGHKEEPSIE – The City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department has received a $324,450 federal grant to purchase equipment that provides breathable air to firefighters when they are dealing with smoke, dangerous gases, and other airborne contaminants.

The funds will cover the purchase of 34 new Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus packs, 68 cylinders, and 34 face masks.

This is the largest grant the fire department has received through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

“This grant will result in a more advanced, effective, and safe fire department which will add to the continuing efforts of providing the best service possible to the community and residents of the city,” said Fire Chief Joseph Franco.
