NEWBURGH – The proposed 2024 Newburgh city general fund budget as crafted by City Manager Todd Venning comes in at $66.6 million.
He provided the city council with a brief overview Tuesday night that includes a reduction in the property tax rate.
“The goal is to reduce the homestead tax rate for the fifth consecutive year in a row and to decrease the non-homestead tax rate for the fourth consecutive year in a row,” he said. The manager said the city will also stray below the state tax cap in the new year.
Water rates in Newburgh will increase by six percent, sewer rates, which are 1-8 percent of the water rates, will go up by about 6.5 percent and there will be no increase in the sanitation rates.
The city council will now have about six weeks to go over the spending plan and make any changes they see fit.
The 2023 city budget was $63.7 million.
