CARMEL – The Putnam County 2024 budget as proposed by County Executive Kevin Byrne Thursday night totals $195 million, up 8.3 percent over this year’s $180 million spending plan.
The Republican Byrne, in his first year as county executive, said his proposed budget includes no tax levy increase and is a sound fiscal plan.
“This budget is one that keeps our tax levy flat, reduces the overall tax burden, enhances needed services, and pushes us into a fairer and brighter future,” he said. “While there are many economic factors beyond our control, be it far off global events, or presidential politics, or unfunded mandates, I believe we are laying the groundwork for a system that ultimately gives us the best chance to succeed.”
Byrne’s plan includes enhanced mental health services, eliminating sales tax on clothing and footwear under $110, creation of a director of transportation, and spending $7.8 million to support infrastructure.
