Reimagined Galleria at White Plains proposed

WHITE PLAINS – Developers of a proposed repurposed Galleria at Whie Plains are calling their plans “the largest conversion of an enclosed shopping mall not open space, mixed-use residential and retail” in the region.

They say the project would eliminate the vacant and outdated 43-year-old retail mall and would connect the community to transit-oriented housing and a “welcoming center of life in the heart of White Plains.”

The plan for District Galleria calls for seven residential towers with up to 3,200 apartments – 384 would be designated as affordable.

Nearly half of the project’s footprint would be open space, creating a quarter-mile-long green promenade with pet playgrounds, pocket parks and landscaping.

The plan is a proposal by Pacific Retail Capital Partners, The Cappelli Organization, SL Green Realty Corporation, and Aareal Bank, owners of the shuttered mall.

The plan has been presented to the White Plains Common Council.
