Republicans sweep ticket in Mamakating for contested races

MAMAKATING- Republicans swept the ticket on election night in the Town of Mamakating securing wins for challenged races for town supervisor, town clerk, and town council.

Incumbent Town Supervisor Michael Robbins secured a second term with a victory over Democratic challenger Shawn Burke.ย  Robbins defeated Burke by a margin of 65 percent to 35 percent.

Town clerk Jean Doughterty chose not to run for reelection and her former post was secured by Republican Karen Barclay.

In the first ward council race, Republican incumbent John Rufer secured 205 votes to beat his Democratic challenger Chelsea Roth, who secured 161 votes.

In the fifth ward council race, which was the only other seat that was opposed, Republican James Post edged out a win against Democrat Paul Champagne.ย  Post secured 154 votes to Champagneโ€™s 141.

In the remaining four wards candidates ran unopposed.
