Rockland County school districts install bus stop-arm cameras

NEW CITY – Six Rockland County school districts have opted into the county school bus safety program that provides bus safety-arm cameras at no cost.

Districts officially joining the BusPatrol company program include Pearl River, Nanuet, North Rockland, Clarkstown, Suffern and Nyack.

Districts that have not joined the program as of yet include South Orangetown, BOCES, and East Ramapo.

“This is a completely free program that without a doubt will protect children from being killed and we’re shocked we don’t have 100 percent participation from the schools yet,” said County Executive Ed Day.

So far 165 buses have been equipped across Suffern, Nanuet and Pearl River districts with 111 tickets issued for passing stopped buses in six weeks.
