POUGHKEEPSIE – A school bus operated by the Poughkeepsie City School District was involved in a crash just after 8 a.m. on Monday. There were four students, a monitor, and a driver on the bus when it collided with a car on Mansion Street near the intersection with Park Place.
Sources have told Mid-Hudson News that the bus was traveling west on Mansion Street when the driver pressed the accelerator rather than the brakes, causing the bus to ram into the rear of a vehicle before stirring onto the sidewalk and knocking down a portion of chain link fence in the yard of a Mansion Street house.
The occupants of the bus were evaluated by police, fire, and EMS personnel, and a school nurse at the scene. No injuries were reported by those on the bus and the students were eventually transferred to another school bus to continue their trip to school.
An occupant of the vehicle that was struck by the bus was treated at the scene and transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
The school bus sustained considerable damage to the front end and the vehicle rear-ended by the bus sustained considerable damage, including a destroyed rear window.
