Senator Sanders introduces bill to enact 32-hour workweek with no loss in pay

WASHINGTON D.C.- United States Senator and former Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders (I, VT) announced the introduction of a bill in the Senate that would enact sweeping changes in the workplace.ย  Sanders proposes to reduce the workweek to 32 hours without losses in pay or benefits to workers.

โ€œMoving to a 32-hour workweek with no loss of pay is not a radical idea,โ€ said Sanders.

He believes that massive increases in worker productivity driven by artificial intelligence, automation, and new technology should be realized by workers, not just companies.

โ€œToday, American workers are over 400 percent more productive than they were in the 1940s.ย  And yet, millions of Americans are working longer hours for lower wagers than they were decades ago.ย  That has got to change,โ€ he said.ย  โ€œIt is time to reduce the stress level in our country and allow Americans to enjoy a better quality of life.โ€

Companion legislation has been introduced in the House of Representatives as well.
