Seven Mid-Hudson municipalities named Pro-Housing Communities

ALBANY – Seven of the first 20 municipalities in New York to be named Pro-Housing Communities are in the Mid-Hudson Valley.

The designation gives those communities priority consideration for up to $650 million in state discretionary funding.

Poughkeepsie is one of the first cities chosen and Mayor Yvonne Flowers was in Albany on Wednesday discussing it with the governor.

“Trying to find avenues and connect with the right people so that way we can start putting out these applications and get this additional funding to subsidize some of these projects, so that is less money that we have to go after the taxpayers for,” she said.

Among the other area cities certified in the program are Kingston, Newburgh, New Rochelle and White Plains as well as the Town of Red Hook and Village of Croton-on-Hudson.

“Widely available quality and affordable housing is critical to the success and vibrancy of a community,” said Kingston Mayor Steven Noble.
