TOWN OF WAPPINGER – Several town and county officials took their ceremonial oath of office Friday night before an overflow crowd in Wappinger Town Hall.
Among those being sworn in was the town’s 30th town supervisor, Joseph Cavaccini. The new supervisor, at 23 years old, is not a new face in town hall. At the age of 12, Cavaccini was named Wappinger Town Historian and he recently ended his service on the Dutchess County Legislature to campaign, successfully, for the town supervisor position.
In addition to Cavaccini, all town councilmembers, town judges, town clerk, and highway superintendent were sworn in before family and friends. County legislators Rob Faust, Lynne Miele-Versaci, and Lisa Paoloni joined in the ceremony. The legislators also took a ceremonial oath of office earlier in the week at the legislature in Poughkeepsie.
With Dutchess County Legislature Chairman Will Truitt, the master of ceremony watching, State Assemblyman AJ Beephan administered the oath to Cavaccini before the newly-minted supervisor addressed the audience.
Cavaccini did not reveal his appointment to the position of deputy town supervisor. Sources have told Mid-Hudson News that he plans to name a deputy who is not a member of town government.

He also indicated his desire to work with the town’s employees who are represented by unions including the CSEA and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, saying, “We will focus on doing the best we can for you as you do so much for us.”
The town’s new comptroller started this month after leaving the Town of Poughkeepsie. Working with Cavaccini, they have, according to the supervisor, “identified key areas of concern” in town financial policies that will be addressed shortly as safeguards are introduced.
