Skoufis threatens to join lawsuit against congestion pricing

CORNWALL- State Senator James Skoufis (D, Cornwall) is not happy with the recent decision by the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) board to move forward with congesting pricing for motorists traveling into portions of Manhattan and says that he may join a New Jersey lawsuit that seeks to halt the implementation of the plan.

โ€œMoving forward with these congestion pricing recommendations is a disgrace:ย  $30 for the โ€˜privilegeโ€™ of driving into Manhattan when my constituents do not have a mass transit alternative is outright theft,โ€ said Skoufis.ย  โ€œIf a major toll offset is not advanced for Orange and Rockland county residents, all of whom live in a transit desert, I will be supporting New Jerseyโ€™s lawsuit to strike down congestion pricing.โ€

The New Jersey lawsuit seeks an immediate stop to the congestion pricing plan and calls for a full environmental impact study.ย  The lawsuit says that New Jersey could experience increased traffic from motorists avoiding the new Big Apple tolls.

Congestion pricing has the support of several of the stateโ€™s large environmental groups as well as Governor Kathy Hochul.
