Sullivan County Head Start to reopen

MONTICELLO – The State Office of Child and Family Services and Community Development Institute have been licensed to open Head Start and Early Head Start centers in Woodbourne and Monticello.

Those locally operated centers abruptly shut down weeks ago with no public explanation, leaving families with no care options for their children.

Now, the programs are slated to reopen on Tuesday, April 9 and Wednesday, April 10 in a phased-in approach.

“Sullivan County families can finally breathe a sigh of relief with Head Start reopening next week to restore the critically needed childcare services our families need,” said Senator Charles Schumer. “This is a major step forward to helping parents who were forced to scramble for childcare – and faced an impossible situation of choosing between working their job that puts food on the table or having to watch their toddler.”

According to Health and Human Services, restored services will be provided for over 200 children at the two facilities.
