MONTICELLO – The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office and the Walmart store in the Town of Thompson played Santa once again for children in the Monticello area with the “Shop with a Cop” program.
Kids were given $50 gift cards and assigned to a sheriff’s deputy to go around the store last Sunday, buying whatever they wanted for Christmas.
Store manager Imran Siddiqi was as excited as the participating children.
“It was fun interacting with the kids; that was the most important thing, helping that community and help helping multiple kids. It’s the holiday season, Christmas coming. What’s the best way to interact with kids – give then toys. It was fun,” Siddiqi said.
Sheriff Michael Sheriff said at the end of the holiday season, “it’s always good to feel like you did some good, like there was a reason to be here this time of year.”
