Troopers release details of Gulnick arrest

KINGSTON – The former Ulster County budget director has been charged with nine crimes in connection with the theft of funds from two organizations for which he was treasurer.

Burton Gulnick, Jr., 51, allegedly stole money from the Hurley Recreation Association and Committee to Re-Elect Mike Hein, a former county executive.

An investigation led to Gulnick being charged with three counts of grand larceny, one count of scheme to defraud and five counts of falsifying business records.

He was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.

As a result of those allegations, Ulster County Government is conducting its own investigation to determine if any funds were missing during Gulnick’s tenure.
