NEW YORK- The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has screened a record number of passengers in 2023 and anticipates airport security checkpoints nationwide will be busier than ever this holiday travel season.
Thanksgiving travel, which begins on Friday, November 17, traditionally kicks off the season.ย During the busiest two weeks, TSA expects to screen approximately 30 million passengers.
โWe expect this holiday season to be our busiest ever.ย In 2023, we have already seen seven of the top 10 busiest travel days in TSAโs history,โ said TSA Administrator David Pekoske.ย โWe are ready for the anticipated volumes and are working closely with our airport partners to make sure we are prepared for this busy holiday travel season.โย TSA officials hope to maintain wait times under 30 minutes.
To reduce wait times, TSA recommends frequent travelers enroll in TSAโs PreCheck program.ย TSA anticipates wait time in PreCheck lines will be significantly less than standard screening lines.
TSA recommends that passengers pack smart and come prepared with proper identification.ย They also recommend travelers arrive two hours early to ensure sufficient time to clear what could be crowded TSA checkpoints.
