POUGHKEEPSIE – A possible “Wild West” style shootout in Poughkeepsie Tuesday afternoon critically injured one male teenager while his opponent also sustained a wound that required a trip to the hospital. The incident began minutes before 3 p.m. in the vicinity of the corner store at Fox Terrace and South White Street where Poughkeepsie High School students gather after the 2:40 p.m. dismissal.

A blood trail led to the victim, who witnesses identified as “Jay Jay,” who had been found on the sidewalk of Church Street. Additional witnesses were yelling that the shooter, another teenage boy who does not attend Poughkeepsie High School, had run from the scene heading west on Church Street.
While gathering evidence, police were notified that a teenage boy had arrived at another Poughkeepsie hospital in a personal vehicle, with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his neck. A police official told Mid-Hudson News that both shooting victims are known to the police.
