Ulster lawmakers defeat request to UCRRA to terminate future landfill studies

KINGSTON – After lengthy debate, the Ulster County Legislature Tuesday night defeated a memorializing resolution requesting that the Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency terminate further landfill reasibility studies.

Majority Democrats outvoted minority Republicans on the resolution, saying with the Seneca Falls landfill the county uses to dispose of its garbage upstate expected to close in 2025, the county needs an alternative means of gabage disposal.

GOP minority leader Ken Ronk said the county should consider a regional approach such as his earlier one where Ulster, Sullivan and Greene countties should work on a solution.

In the meantime, another resolution ti establish an UCRRA reform committee was referred back to committee for additional discussion.
