DUTCHESS COUNTY – One of two young women shot to death in Miami over the weekend was from Pawling, in Dutchess County, New York. Sidney Capolino, 23, of Pawling was shot to death along with her best friend and roommate, Meghan Moore, 25, of Centerville, Massachusetts. The two were shot dead by Moore’s former boyfriend in Miami, Florida, according to police reports.
Initial police reports say that Moore’s ex-boyfriend, Luis Nopales, 40, shot Moore outside of the apartment she shared with Capolino then walked inside and slayed roommate Capolino before shooting himself. Police said all three lived together in the apartment.
Capolino and Moore had been ice hockey teammates when they played at New England College in New Hampshire. Moore graduated in 2021 and Capolino earned her degree in 2022.
Reports say that police were summoned to the Coral Gables apartment complex at 9 a.m. on Saturday by a neighbor who reported hearing gunshots. Responding officers found Moore’s body outside of the apartment and radioed that another shot had just been fired. The officers entered the apartment to find the bodies of Capolino and Nopales inside.
