Webutuck Central School District to provide free school meals to all students

NORTH EAST – The Webutuck Central School District in North East will be providing free breakfast and lunch to all of its students as well as expanding its pre-kindergarten program as a result of new funding secured in the fiscal year ’24 state budget.

State Senator Michelle Hinchey (D, Saugerties) acquired a $135 million statewide commitment that made it possible for the North East district to provide meals at no cost across all schools starting in September.

She was also successful in securing $185.000 in local pre-K funding – an increase of $108,000 over previous years, which will fund a second pre-K program and support a total of 36 students across two classes.

“This program is so important for all students and families of the Webutuck Central School District,” said Superintendent Raymond Castellani. “Ensuring that all students are afforded a healthy meal is vital in the learning process.”
