NEWBURGH – In the Newburgh school board’s affidavit in support of its verified petition to the State Education Department seeking the removal of Darren Stridiron as president and member of the board, allegations of whistleblower status have been raised.
The issue was brought up at an executive session of the board, meaning it should not have been made public, but it was when the board filed its petition to Albany, an affidavit signed by board member Letitia McDaniel Politi included the whistleblower issue, pertaining to a teacher that was not named in the document, but is known to be Richard Desiderio.
The school district’s attorney David Shaw last week said since Stridiron brought it up first in public session, there was no breach of executive session confidentiality by the board majority.
Stridiron maintains the district wants to fire Desiderio because he was, in fact, the person who blew the whistle on the high school athletes’ attendance scandal.
