Wrong-way alleged drunk driver collides with two on I-84

KENT – An Illinois resident, accused of being intoxicated, has been arrested after an early morning incident on I-84 in the Town of Kent.

State Police responded to a report of a wrong-way driver on the westbound side of I-84 east of Ludingtonville Road in Kent early Wednesday morning.

Troopers determined that Edison Magallanes Castro, 26, of Chicago, IL, had been operating a 2013 Volkswagen Passat eastbound in the westbound lanes and struck both a Nissan Sentra and an Acura TSX.

Castro was determined to be driving while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and was arrested for the misdemeanors of DWI and reckless driving.

A passenger in Castro’s vehicle and both other motorists were transported to local area hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries.

Magallanes Castro was issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Kent Justice Court.
