CANTON – A Tuesday evening fire in Canton caused extensive damage to a two-story residence in the village.
Canton Fire Chief Robert Crowe informed North Country This Week that the Canton Fire Department responded to a working fire at 30 Dies Street. The blaze was reported by a neighbor and the property owner is Bill Bascom.
The chief said 22 members responded to the scene at 6 p.m. Apparatus include two engine trucks, one heavy rescue vehicle and one light truck.
Most of the damage was sustained on the second floor and roof with lesser damage on parts of the first floor.
The cause is under investigation.
Assisting at the scene were the Canton Rescue Squad, Canton Police, National Grid, and Liberty Utilities.
The Canton department was back in service at 9:45 p.m.
