Hammond athlete scores 1,000th point of her career in basketball

HAMMOND — Hammond Central School star athlete Landree Kenyon scored her 1,000th point of her basketball career Tuesday night.

Her achievement came during a 71-23 win over St. Lawrence Central.

Kenyon, who is 6’1”, is the current New York State MVP for Class D on a team that won the State Championship last year.

The senior power forward is averaging 26 points per game, along with 14 rebounds and five blocks, according to her coach Alyssa Crosby.

Crosby is the sister-in-law of Kenyon and could not be more proud.

“She sets an example for others to follow and makes everyone around her better,” Crosby said. “She is a hard working athlete and her dedication doesn’t go unnoticed.”

Kenyon is the 14th girl to score 1,000 points in school history, joining her sisters Brittany and Avery, as well as Coach Crosby.

“Landree is a very humble student athlete,” Crosby said. “She is always helping out students at the lower levels by assisting in their basketball practices and physical education classes.”

Kenyon plans to continue playing on the hardwood in college, but is undecided as to where. She does want to play basketball at the college level but is still undecided.

Kenyon was also named an All-North Soccer player by the Watertown Times.

“The Hammond Central School District could not be prouder of Landree, her drive, attitude, efforts, and role modeling for her teammates and our school community is tremendous,” school officials said in a press release.
