BRASHER FALLS – Mardi Gras was celebrated North Country style at the 49th annual Tri-Town Winter Carnival Feb. 16-19.
Cold weather activities included snow sculpture and longest icicle contests. A snowshoe/cross country and snowmobile poker run were held, with adaptations due to lack of enough snow this year.
The winter carnival’s opening ceremonies started off Thursday night with the crowning of royalty at the Riverview, Brasher Falls.
Rick Seguin and Jacque Seguin were crowned this year’s King and Queen. The royal couple represented the Town of Brasher. Other royalty members crowned were Ellen Fukes and Allen Fukes as Senior Queen and King, St. Lawrence Central Seniors Jerye Demers-St. Hilaire as Princess and Robbie Houle as prince, Lynne and Tim Durant as Royal Court representing the Town of Lawrence, and Heather and Shaun Cocayne as Royal Court representing the Town of Stockholm
A Mardi Gras themed masquerade ball with live music and food by Gideon’s Gallery was held at Pike’s Place.
A wide variety of events throughout the carnival included a mentalist from Syracuse, a parade in Winthrop, as well as a pooch parade, snow baby contest, winter carnival beauty pageant, piano recital, and fireworks.
Contests included shuffleboard, cornhole, pool, tug-of-war, a dart tournament and a Hot Wing eating contest at Frank’s Pizzeria.
A Kid Zone was held at the Elementary school with bounce houses, child crafts, family swim, Lego Robots and Coding, and fun interactive games. A craft fair was also at the school to benefit St. Lawrence Central Back Pack Program. Story time was held at Badenhausen Reading Room
