Molly Wright, of Morristown, was awarded her Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award a Girl Scout can earn, on April 29.
Molly is a recent graduate of Morristown Central School. She is now attending SUNY Potsdam to become a secondary school teacher.
She started Girl Scouts as a Daisy in kindergarten. She continued on in Girl Scouts earning her Bronze award as a Junior Girl Scout as well as her Silver award as a Cadette. For this award she had to find and implement a project that would benefit her community. She decided that it needed to be something that would benefit the school that she attended. She knew that the school district did not have a calming room, which is a place where students can go and have some fidget toys, listen to music, read a book, or color. All things that would be calming to a student or even an adult. She got to work with the school district in implementing a calming room at her school.
This topic is very personal to her as she wanted to bring awareness of mental health. This is something that was close to her and she knew it would be something that would benefit the students at Morristown.
In addition to creating the calming room at Morristown School she created Brochures that were donated to the school guidance counselor and handed out to all seventh and eighth grade students.
Molly also created healthy recipe cards that were handed out at the back to school night event in Morristown.
She has four siblings who are also active members of Girl Scouts as well as Boy Scouts. She is the daughter of Daniel and Sandra Wright.
