POTSDAM — Clarkson University will see just over 700 new first-year students arriving this semester at campus on move-in day on Aug. 25.
About 3,000 students will be enrolled this coming year before classes begin Aug. 28, college officials said.
“As of the end of the last academic year, we have 2,327 upperclassman who were not in the Class of 2023 and 701 incoming first-year students as of August 1 planning, so just over 3,000 undergraduate students; We are still working on international student visas and transfers, but these numbers are on target,” said Kelly O. Chezum, Clarkson’s Vice President of External Relations.
The total enrollment numbers are down from last year, which saw around 4,000 total enrollment in the fall of 2022.
The university has launched several new programs, notably in the healthcare disciplines, this year.
While the university is known for its engineering and data science programs, Clarkson University’s Lewis School of Health Sciences recently announced its new nine-month paramedic program, set to commence this November. The program adds to the growing list of healthcare programs the college offers.
This initiative is the result of a collaborative effort with Clarkson University’s School of Health Sciences and St. Lawrence Health. This new program aims to tackle the significant Emergency Medical Services (EMS) staffing shortages in the North Country and its surrounding rural areas.
In addition to the new paramedic program, the university launched a new Bachelor of Science in Healthcare degree program last semester.
